This book is not going well so far. Language that is extremely simplistic and almost certainly doesn't belong in 1929. Anachronistic to the point of really pulling me out of the story.

Good lord, this book has never seen the red pen of an editor. Loose instead of lose, twice. Lightening instead of lightning, twice in the same paragraph. Peddled instead of pedaled, twice. Commas rampant where they shouldn't be and nearly nonexistent where they do belong. And on top of that much of the typesetting is weird, in that a paragraph will split onto a new line, indented, in the middle of a sentence.

Oh, how handy, suddenly will has <spoiler>the power of telekinesis</spoiler>! What luck!

It's important for Will to wear these ear muffs in the MRI, because those powerful radio waves get really loud!

...Wait a minute...

Instance of bad writing: genetics teacher confronts Will about not being interested in science. Will says maybe it's a recessive gene and he'll grow into it later. Genetics teacher is ebullient that Will "knows something about our subject." Because that's TOTALLY how genetics works.

So if Julia (or was it Janet?) knew the story of Emily Greenwood, then how did she not already know about Brakebills South? I'll tell you how: because this is a plot hole.
