Ingrid
Ingrid is starting In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette
Although only 450 pages long, this book felt as long as the expedition it recounts.

Overall very informative, though at times a bit long-winded. I was familiar with a lot of the information covered, but there was enough new material to make it worth my while. Most importantly, it made me examine my habits and encouraged me to make adjustments for getting better sleep.

Super predictable fluff, with a plot totally based on lack of communication. I wasn't a fan of the two main characters (how many time must the protagonist comment on how good looking the guy is?) and I also found the evil mother's character so extreme as to be cartoonish.

Would give this 3.5 stars. I thought I would like it more than I did. I always have a problem with books that have no likable characters, and this book fits into that category. It does raise a lot of valid points regarding the fickleness of the publishing industry and the savagery of social media, but it was like watching a train wreck--disturbing but you can't look away.

Ingrid is reading Normal People
Although I at times found the characters' decisions frustrating, overall this book does a great job of delving into the issues of class disparity, dysfunctional families, and young adults' anxieties about their place in society regardless of their background. I was put off by the lack of quotation marks, but even so, I was unable to put this book down.
