Excited to dive back into Sanderson but one immediate critique….second lead mmc whose motivation is fridging his love. At least we got a prologue entry of her in this one. Good thing he writes lots of characters so the first Mistborn trilogy that was a smallish aspect to the overall story. Hopefully here too. Glad I read tress of the emerald sea in between!

Only critique is I feel like the emotional impact when people die is missing. They just die off page or in passing. We see some after effects but less loving into the emotional experience that I want. I’m 74 pages in and realized I missed a big death?! Did it golden on page? Was I not paying attention while listening? Seems pivotal to be missed…

I’m loving the chapter flashbacks at the beginning. Been thinking the whole time it is the ruler pre-rule. He became what he was trying to overthrow. Does it foreshadow kel and vin and others having a bit of an animal farm ending? Make a better world and still have the same problems?

So far so good! (Spoilers ahead). I’m glad we are seeing the ruins so early on! So creepy! It’s giving the shadow man meets zombies meets Mayan ruins vibes
