Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote by Jorge Luis Borges is a close rival. Perhaps better. The last one, I was screaming "No..." But this was a hilarious mocking of intellectual pretension. Great.

Section on God as the source of evil is a real challenge. I've used the "permission" explanation Calvin uses. I could do with looking at it more closely. Also interesting that Calvin thinks two wills is unhelpful. Some great quotes from Augustine on this are very helpful.

Accusations that Calvin is fatalistic show people haven't read what he has to say. He makes clear the role of means and the need to not become fatalistic in knowledge of providence. He also shows why providence is a joyful thing. The stuff on God's 'repentance' is helpful too.

Found some stories I really enjoyed. Sherlock Holmes was fun. Chekhov felt very at home after a recent Tolstoy. O Henry was fantastic too. Look them up in the future

1.16 Talks about the need to see God as providentially in control of everything, not fate. I need to make sure I don't slip into talking like God doesn't exist: "Oh that was lucky."
