I get a News from Nowhere (William Morris) vibe: a pamphlet for a better society, draped in allegory and archetypes. There seems to be two Hero Journeys, both are now in the Abyss. Very artificial; it requires the right mindset.

It is very allegorical and reads like a Pilgrim's Progress mixed with The Matrix: Reloaded. There isn't really story, more like an essay that has plot. I'm not sure if this is faux profoundness or really has something to say.

I guess this is dystopian minimalism? Very little setting, big mystery, authoritarian state, some truth bearers, a disappearance, some love.

Usually this kind of story keeps a reader interested because he is curious about this wirkd, but you can't keep that suspense for long. Too many questions might make the reader give up on it, especially because the characters and the setting are barren.

"I could not be a poet without the natural world. Someone else could. But not for me. For me the door to the woods is the door to the temple."
