I am in admiration of Wilde’s writing and can’t help but exclaim now and again as I read.

Wilde describing a view of a mountain range: “Beyond, my view was largely obstructed by another, much higher range of mountains, a great convocation of them jutting messily from the green earth brandishing their glacial raiments.”

I’d say that compared to most murder mysteries, where the mystery solving takes up about 55-70% of the plot; this novel places that 55-70% on the main characters’ interactions and personal relationships.

So its more of a story about a family overcoming an interpersonal rift while solving a murder than a murder mystery. Still great though

Very quickly realized why this book cleaned 🧼 the floor with Fantasy/Sci-fi awards in 2024. 😻

Amazing. A time, language, culture and family capsule.

I was in awe of the writing by 25%. The way the author accentuates language & culture seems to bolden the changes that occur as time goes on through the story

Engrossing after the first 10%.
