Somewhat forgotten by history, the story of the United States Exploration Expedition is compelling. Philbrick does an excellent job of capturing the period, people, and places that make up the 4 yr voyage.

So much more than a tale of adventure.... an interesting story, coupled w a broad overview of the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon, and the characters who make their living guidng white water tours.
