I am finishing a near-future cyberpunk trilogy in which an unemployed bipolar journalist and her hacktivist friends try to stop a giant media corporation and a corrupt president from controlling the world.

The first book, Sleep State Interrupt, was a Compton Crook finalist for best first speculative fiction novel. The enemy strikes back in The Wrath of Leviathan. The finale, Zero-Day Rising, comes out Sep. 1.

I got about 20-25% through Red Sparrow before the library loan expired. I am not sure I will renew it (there's often a long queue for e-books). The author, a former CIA agent, seems to know a great deal about spycraft. But for a thriller it isn't very thrilling. He digresses into long, meandering backstories. He head-hops between characters. And he shows nothing but disdain toward Russians (and Arabs also).
