logical, informative, delightful

A psychologicl genius...with every word comes an unfolding of realizations I had always had about myself, but never thought to articulate.

A lot of good food and interesting fashion choices.

Love the part where it is made clear to the reader that the narrator is NOT the author. the author himself pops up saying' hi, this is Orhan Pamuk" and then offers his reasons for writing the story in the first person.

Getting very long-winded but provides a good cultural/social history of Istanbul in the 70's and 80's. Surely we're not meant to take this Kamal character seriously. But I've known men who've spent their whole lives chasing an unattainable woman, so maybe..

It just struck me...this book reminds me a lot of Lolita.

This is certainly, an example of a new narrative voice- first person, certainly, but a very unusual kind of first person narration.

Still unclear what's going on, but so far I see the selfishness and totalitarianism that characterizes so many relationships between adults and their young children.

Much better than expected and very different from 1984.

I am a bit unnerved by the narrative voice in this novel. The omniscient third-person narrator reports on people's thoughts and subtle, unnoticable emotions as off-handedly as she would report the number of people in a demonstration or the amount of snow that has fallen in Brummana. Any Lessing experts out there?

Sweet and light...makes me want to go on a quick visit to London
