Maybe it's the 2 page chapters, maybe it's the hate of Nina, but I am flying through this book. Was worried it was going to be too similar to Ruth Ware's Turn of the Key. And who knows maybe it still will be with the creepy kid 🤣

It's been hard to find time to read (normally I do audiobooks, but have this on Kindle) so far an excellent book.

Since it has been nearly 20 years since I read a Steinbeck novel, and it was homework back then, I forgot (or never realized) how well he can form a story and pull at your emotions. Barely even into the book (Chapter 6) and it's gonna be a hell of a ride.

Easy to read YA novel. Didn't realize it when I started as it was part of a pack of books I got as a gift. I could see it being a Harry Potter-esque movie. Actually reading on Kindle, not audiobook as I usually do.

I think I sawtelled myself too far. After 1000 pages of Familiaris I went right into this one. Need to read something else for a bit and return to this.

Interesting premise. Reviews seemed hit or miss, so will see.

Wish I had someone to share this gem with. Hard to put into words, likely as I am bad at words, but what a lovely book. Almost done this final chapter has been an emotional one. Maybe I'll read the book this is a prologue to.

On to Part 2, I am really enjoying the interconnected story lines more so than I thought I would. I am normally horrible at following ever changing perspectives, but, it would appear each "part" in the book is going to be one distinct storyline. Wasn't expecting the supernatural to be in this book, as I'm not really interested in all that, but so far so good.

What a lovely story so far, taking place all over Wisconsin.

At nearly 40 hours for the audiobook, I’m glad I ignored a few reviews of it being hard to get into. Maybe the story taking place in Wisconsin, and a few shared ideologies with the main character thus far have kept it interesting for me.
