Liking this so far. The Commentary joke on pp. 78-79 is pretty good.

Ever notice how every Roman whose name starts with a C was kind of an asshole? Caesar: ambitious asshole. Cato: censorious asshole. Catiline: populist asshole. Crassus: forgettable asshole. Cassius: traitorous asshole. Catallus: profane asshole. Commodus: monstrous asshole. Cicero, as a self-righteous yet articulate asshole, likely comes off the best of the lot.

Main character is a raging asshole even by the standards of contemporary fiction featuring 40ish man-children living in New York, but quite a lot of fun so far.
