The Harlem Globetrotters were organized and based in Chicago. Harlem was so synonymous with the best in Black culture that people called teams and groups Harlem for the publicity.

Buck O'Neil is a more forgiving person than I am. I 💯 salute him for that. I also wonder if he ever wondered how his life would have turned out if he HADN'T had to deal with Jim Crow.
Florida had FOUR high schools for Black children 100 years ago. (Read Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead when you have a chance).

This is an excellent book, but I need to be in the correct headspace for it. We always complain about the "great man version of history". Here is a 500 page book where regular people, flawed as they may be, take the lead.
Perhaps the most important theme of this section was that normal working people at this time were skeptical of the political leaders, and often forced them into action.
