Really, without reading the first two books I'd be very bewildered. But I already love these characters and thus, it works great for me. Wait til you meet the Warhelm and a little more Sci-Fi elements. Just keeps getting better.

Jed is on page 200 of 560 of The Dark Defiles (A Land Fit for Heroes, #3)

I'm reading an ARC thanks to the publisher and it's a great continuation of the Ringil Eskiath story. Without the first 2 books, I doubt you would enjoy this as uch but if you have - this is great - and I'm confident of a great conclusion.
