Paul Perry > Recent Status Updates

I've read quite a bit of Moorcock - Hawkmoon and Count Brass, Jerry Cornelius, even some Erekose and his more recent, more 'literary' works - but somehow I've never read any Elric.

The second tale in the collection, House of Cool Air by William F. Yu, is equally WTF did I just read, from the POV of a boy who imprisoned in a house of women and girls who wakes every day at a different age. Oh, and gets kneed in the balls as punishment if he leaves his room or for any other violations.

The first story, A Wind from the South by Dennis Etchison, is a piece of unsettling suburbania. It's fine but slight, possibly as it's an extract from a novel - which is especially odd as the introduction takes pains to point out what a fine master of the short story Etchison is.

This has been pure awesomeness from the start, but the chapter on Clytemnestra is truly jaw-dropping.

I adore how the author infuses the love of language and etymology, but also sows it as a resource that can be stolen and misused
