Ok, it’s still good but I just don’t like how the direction changed. Maybe I was expecting something else…

Oh my god, the first story…
Shahrzad is an excellent story teller. I can’t put this novel down …!

“Tariq continued, the silver in his eyes flashing. “But understand this: no matter how many perfect young women you put in my path, there is only one Shahrzad.”

I barely started and it’s probably too soon to say this. But please don’t tell me this is gonna be one of those novels where I end up cheering for the wrong guy. I really hope first male lead actually holds up.

“I don’t think he likes me that way” said by the main character who had 35462 romantic moments with the love interest.

“Oliver had mostly sat decorously on his sofa, reading The Song of Achilles”

Oliver had great taste.

Luc thinking while cleaning “maybe if I managed to get at least some of my shit together, he might like me enough to kiss me.”

*Cut to a couple chapters later, Oliver kissing him when he sees the clean apartment*

Seriously, Oliver is such a nice guy so whyyyy ?

“His name’s Luc,” offered Alex, helpfully. “Don’t worry, I forget all the time too.”
Nice going, us. Undetectable fake boyfriending.”

Alex is just so sweet ☺️
Also, love the dynamic between Luc and Oliver.

University is starting soon 😓, i feel like days just went by so fast.

“No wonder Oliver had practically vomited when that randomer at Bridge’s party had thought we were going out”
What actually happened - politely denied dating him.

“No wonder he’d dumped me in bed and run away screaming that time I’d tried to hit on him”
Again - didn’t sleep with a drunk and acted like a gentleman

Achievement : Professional over-thinker unlocked

Luc’s inner monologues are bit long and unnecessary but he is hilarious, so he is good

Alright, I barely started but I like the writing style and I like the main character. Right off the start, it met the bare minimum for me to complete a book.

I’ve been having down days for no reason, I hope this book can cheer me up 🙂

Did anyone else have that phase where they were obsessed with fanfics or do I just get too attached to my favorite books ?

And here we are, right at the same location we started with. An incredible and clever ending. This book was simply amazing, and I have so much to say about it ! It’s been a while since I’ve read a book this thrilling, definitely one of the best books I’ve read in 2021

“She’ll tell you. I’m a hero!” he shouted back, throwing the knife aside. “I saved you all!”

Eli has been terrifying and hypocrite the whole novel. But for some reason, at this moment, I just felt bad for him. Because unlike victor who’s self aware, Eli has always thought himself as a hero. The whole time he thought he was saving. Just terrifying how twisted thinking can influence your actions.

Victor’s message to Eli
“It was a stick-figure drawing. Two people holding hands. A thin man in black and a girl, half his height with short hair, and wide eyes. ………Beneath the drawing ran a single sentence: I made a friend.
Victor.”

This is what I like about characters with villain energy (technically not a villain), they reach out their messages with style.

Eli talking about Angie : “She was a person, Victor, not a thing, and you murdered her.”
Also Eli : more concerned about victor’s powers than his dead girlfriend

I’m finally kind of getting the picture.

Wait a minute…imagine you and your friend both go through near death experience and only one of you get a cool power. Your friend, not you.

This will be MY villain origin story.

“Or rather, Eli watched her go, and Victor watched Eli watch her, something twisting in his stomach”

“Victor swore inwardly. He had worked so hard to bring it out, and Angie was undoing all of Eli’s focus with a kiss.”

Have I just read too many queer books, or Is there some form of romantic tension between them ?
Either way, this novel is great and I’m really intrigued by these characters.

“Catalina,” he finally said, and he followed that with a deep and tired sigh. “I want to tell you. I’d gladly tell you everything about me.”

“She’ll always have me.” His thumb caressed the back of my hand. “She doesn’t know it yet, but she is stuck with me.”

Did I just read 370 pages of Aaron professing his love for Catalina while she convinced herself that they are a fake couple ??? Yes, I did.

“If you think I’m not elated to see you eat, then you don’t understand how serious I was yesterday.”

This is when she orders everything from the bakery menu after he offers to pay. All this which takes place after going through an extreme diet which was harming her physically and mentally.

And they are still not together..
what is she waiting for?! She is clearly attracted to him !!!

Hey, I just realized why the sequel of ‘Carry on’ by Rainbow Rowell is called ‘Wayward son’. It’s because the song by Kansas is called ‘Carry on, my wayward son’.
And I am here wondering this whole time why is it called wayward son.
Or…is there some other explanation ?

I just love how out of many normal ways, this is how he asks her out on a date.

Goodreads is a great site. I get so many recommendations, I see so many interesting books others are reading, I get BOTM.

Sooo many books, If only my reading speed wasn’t SO DAMN SLOW.

How do you get out of ya contemporary comfort zone ??? I keep falling back into it
