The scope and breadth of this book is very impressive. The overwrought prose of the earlier chapters settles down considerably and Robb seems to have found his groove. An overwhelming amount of information is organized and presented very well. It’s informative, readable, and enjoyable.

First couple of pages are dreadfully overwritten and overwrought. But the book hits its stride with the chapter covering the history of gothic literature.
