Charley was filling his canteen the next morning after the battle, and when the sun came up, he could see that the water he was drinking was pink, and he looked upstream to find dead bodies in the water. This made him sick, but he company had started marching. They stopped in Washington to get new uniforms and men, and headed back south. The union troops were told not to steal fruit from locals, but did it anyway.

Charley Goddard is a 15 year old boy who lives in Minnesota and he hears about the civil war that is taking place. He decides he wants to be a man so he tells his mother that he is going off to Fort Snelling and lying about his age to enlist in the army. He says he is 18, and nobody says anything, and he boards a train headed down south. When passing Maryland, he sees a black woman, and she hands him a sweet roll.

Artemis, Wade, Aech, and Shoto all go to Castle Anorak to fight the sixer army, and when they get there, there are thousands and thousands of avatars waiting to join them. Wade had programmed a droid inside the sixer base to grab an antimatter bomb, go to the top of the castle, and detonate it. When this happened, the avatar holding the artifact that kept the shield up was killed, dropping the shield.

Wade is really nervous to meet Artemis and everyone else because he is afraid it would ruin their friendships, but he knows that defeating the sixers is more important. Once he arrives, he is informed that he wont event meet Artemis until after the fight, so he sets up his OASIS rig, and logs back in on Morrow's internet so the sixers dont know where he is.

Wade escapes IOI's facility with a hard drive of everything on their intranet, and he sends a message to all OASIS players telling them to meet at castle anorak because he knows how to break the sixers shield. He meets Artemis, Shoto, and Aech in a chatroom and Ogden Morrow shows up, and tells them all that he has chartered planes to bring them to his mansion in Oregon so they are safe during the fight.

Wade talks about how he has been taken by IOI because he has an outstanding balance that he owes to the company, so they make him work for them as a tech rep. He then reveals that he has a master plan because he bought IOI access codes on the black market seven months earlier, and he was going to hack the company from the inside, and figure out how to get to the third gate.

Key's gate has been blocked off by the sixers, and once they find where the gate is, they could end the hunt, and own the OASIS.

The scoreboard, and his name now has 2 gate icons next to it, meaning he has passed through the jade gate. This worries Wade, and a few days later, Sorrentos score goes up again, signaling that the sixers now have the final key, and all they need to do is go through the final gate. Wade kicks it into high gear and clears the second gate, and finds the crystal key on a planet coded by Halliday, but the crystal

Wade escapes frobozz with the jade key, but sees that Daito's name is no longer on the scoreboard, and he assumes that Daito's avatar was killed. When he meets with Shoto, Wade is told that Daito was actually killed in real life by IOI employees, they broke into his house, and killed him. Shoto gives Wade some of Daitos belongings. In the next few days, Wade sees Sorrento's IOI employee number go to the top of

Wade goes to the planet Archaide where he believes that there could be the possibility of finding the jade key there. Instead, he finds a museum of old games, and a pac man game. He plays pac man and gets a perfect score, and then he gets an email from Aech, saying that he knows where the key is and that his debt is paid in full. Wade decides to go to the planet Frobozz, where the key is.

Wade logs out of the OASIS after the sixer attack, and he is hit with a realization that he doesn't live in the real world, but rather a fake one. He spends all of his real money on equipment to make the OASIS a more enjoyable place. He knows that nobody in the real world knows him, but he is a celebrity online, and thats why he doesn't ever want to stop playing the OASIS.

Wade is invited to Ogden Morrows birthday party, which is a very exclusive event, and Artemis is also invited. While they're there, everyone is posting pictures of them online, and the sixers hear about this. Soon, there is a hole blasted in the roof, and sixers are pouring in to try and kill wade and Artemis.

Artemis and wade start to talk to each other a lot more and learn about who each of them is in real life. Wade tells Artemis a lot of private details about his life and vice versa, they start going out to clubs in the oasis, and Wade knows that he really likes artemis, and he says that he made the mistake of finally telling her how he feels.

Wade and Aech meet up with Art3mis, Daito, and Shoto to discuss what the sixers are doing on Ludus. They talk about how the sixers have set up a force field around the tomb, so nobody can enter. When the possibility of an alliance comes up, Daito and Shoto leave the chatroom angry.

Wade meets with the C.O.O of IOI, who offers him a huge sum of money to tell them where the copper key is, but Wade refuses. Then Sorrento tells him that there are explosives at his trailer where his aunt lives, but Wade doesn't believe him, and he logs out of the OASIS. He hears nothing for a few minutes, and then a big explosion. He goes outside and sees his aunt's trailer on fire. He realizes he needs to leave

Wade is emailed by the chief of operations of IOI, which is a company that wants to find the locations of all the keys so that they could win the contest and make the OASIS a game that people had to pay so that they could play, he accepts the invitation to meet, and he is tranported to their spaceship.

Wade enters the first gate inside of Halliday's old house. Once he goes in, all he can see is stars and deep space. He falls forward and then stops and realizes where he is. He is in one of Hallidays favorite movies, and he has to act out the movie to complete the gate. He has seen the movie so many times that he knows all the lines, so it wasnt hard. When he comes out, his score goes up by 100,000 points.

Wade exits the tomb and heads to Middletown, which is a planet with hundreds of replicas of James Halliday's hometown. Wade knows what he is supposed to do with the copper key, he has to play a game on Halliday's old computer, and once he beats it, the key opens the first gate. While on his way, Art3mis appears on the scoreboard, which means that she now has the copper key too, so Wade needs to hurry.

Wade was sitting in Latin class when he realized he knew where the tomb of horrors was, which meant he knew where the first key was. He used the schools teleporter to get to a different school over 400 kilometers away, and he struck off into the forest. He found the tomb, and defeated the undead king inside to get they key. Just as he was about to leave, an avatar entered the tomb, and blocked the entryway.

Wade talks about how the OASIS works, and it basically is a visor with lasers that go into your eyes to simulate the world, and the gloves make you feel whatever your avatar feels. He is in his foreign language class when he talks about how he found the first clue to the copper key, there were letters in the Almanac that were notched, and he put the letters in order, and they spelled out the clue.

Wade talks about how he doesnt have enough money to afford teleportation vouchers in the OASIS, and people make fun of him for this, because his avatar is such a low level. He is stuck on the planet Ludus, which is where all of the OASIS schools are, so he can't level up his avatar. He explains how much he knows about Halliday, he basically knows his whole life story, and has played most of his games.

Wade talks about how he goes to OASIS school, which is completely virtual, but students still go to school in the OASIS, and it it a lot like real high school. He talks about these people that are called the sixers, and they are people hired by a company to look for Halliday's easter egg, and when they find it, they turn it over. Everyone seems to hate the sixers, except the sixers themselves.

Wade Watts is a teenager in a world where humanity has almost given up. There is mass poverty, world hunger, and the people are miserable. He lives with his Aunt Alice, and she steals his food vouchers, and if Wade is caught with anything valuable, his aunt takes it and pawns it or sells it. There is a game called OASIS that everyone plays, and its basically the only thing anybody cares about anymore.

Jus goes to a gang house to talk to Martel, who is a gang leader to discuss joining his gang. While he's there, he realizes that it isn't where he belongs, so he goes to SJ's house, and they both confess that they like each other. Justyce is later questioned by the police about a fire at Garret Tisson's house, who was the man who killed Manny. The officers say that the people that are in custody mentioned Justyce.

Justyce goes to a juvenile correction center to speak with Manny's cousin, Quan. Quan was accused of shooting a police officer, and he asked Manny's parents to get Jus to go see him. After talking with Quan, Jus sees a picture of himself on the news in his thug outfit from halloween, and the achors start talking about how he lived a double life, and thats how he got shot. This seems pretty unfair to me.

Justyce and Manny were supposed to go to Stone mountain to hike, but Manny didn't want to go so they drove around for a bit. At a stoplight, someone beside them started yelling at them and calling them slurs, and when Manny started yelling back, the other man shot Justyce and Manny, and Manny died. If something like this were to ever happen to me, I don't know what I would do, it's kind of unimaginable.

Justyce and SJ win their state debate championship while debating racial profiling. After the win, SJ wont talk to him, so Justyce decides to go to a party with Manny, and he gets really drunk. He gets mad when the person who is hosting the party calls him the n-word, so Jus punches him in the face and leaves. I think my reaction would probably be similar to Justyces's if that happened to me.

Justyce and his friend Manny talk in Manny's basement about the problems he's having at school, and about his ex girlfriend Melo.

Justyce is at a halloween party and he and his friends all dressed up as stereotypes that hang out together to show that there is no divide in the country. Justyce knows its a bad idea but he goes anyways. A gang at the party shows up and kicks them out. The next day, Jus is accepted to yale, and a classmate of his, Jared, isnt. Jared comes in and says that affirmative action is racist, and the class debates.

Justyce's teacher has a class discussion about racial inequality in the country. One of his classmates, Jared, is saying that there are no race inequalities, and SJ, another classmate, is saying that there is. The two of them argue back and forth until Justyce decides to leave. The next day, on Halloween, Justyce and Manny's friends go out as stereotypes to "bridge the divide".
