The answer to the Big Mystery was evident looooong ago. Miranda is either not nearly as intelligent and literate as we’re supposed to think she is, or she’s so dense and oblivious that she’s become an idiot. Also, why the secrecy? From everyone? (Sigh) Just once it would be lovely to read a book in which the adult characters knew how to act like adults and actually communicate with each other.
