there is something so incredibly real about this book, despite how far away it feels to read about NY Gilded Age. Reminds me of this quote:

"You read something which you though only happened to you, and you discover that it happened 100 years ago to Dostoyevsky. This is a very great liberation for the suffering, struggling person, who always thinks that he is alone. This is why art is important."

been reading so much that i feel a slump coming on... attempting to alleivate it by reading some of my 'greats'. this book does something to me...

reading this so i can gift it to a friend later on - i think i understand some of the concepts, though i know most of it is going over my head, which makes me take notes while i'm reading.

it also gives me extreme anxiety which has me hoping that i will finish this book quick

it kind of kills me that it took so long for Leah to even think of Miri while she was on her expedition... I want to believe that it is not the case but i do fear that it is...

abt halfway through and my fears of what was insinuated at the beginning of this book was correct. i do hope that this gives me some kind of insight... i don't exactly need to read the perspective of a dysfunctional family, as i have enough experience to know what goes on, but seeing some of these topics are rarely talked about, i'm curious of how Rubens confronts them...

i need the pace to pick up just a tad bit more...need something intense to happen

i know i'm not a sci-fi person because i'm aware that Andy Weir is one of the best sci-fi writers because of his realistic explanation of how things work... however, i feel like he could've cut half of the explanations and it would've been enough for me.

also, i think this book is gonna rip me apart

at this point, i just want Townrow to die.

Townrow becomes more and more unlikeable as each page goes on... i really don't understand him.

readability is low and confusing, but it makes sense with where the book is going, and i think that the way this book is written was definitely new and exciting for the time, which is why it won the Booker award.

Unfortunately, i feel like this book has a lot of historical context that i am unaware of... I mean, some of it i'm aware of, but others i am not. gonna have to sparknotes each chapter i feel.

here begins my pretentious journey of reading ever booker awarded book. this shit kinda got bad reviews im not excited.

Enjoying the book, but kinda getting the 'alright, where the hell is this going?' feeling. I feel like I am seeing the pieces come together, with Hinton and Julia and the notebook... but there is a vital piece of information that I am missing. I almost wish that this first bit about Julia should've been introduced sooner as to keep more interest... I'm honestly just curious about how this all comes together.
