IM READING THIS FOR BOOKCLUB (Flor can confirm) (please look away)

Some thoughts so far:
- the exploration of US colonialism and actions in the Philippines was good
- i liked the exploration of the intersections of racism, poverty, and sex work, as well as gendered violence.
- a bit repetitive
- not sure if I'm the biggest fan of the narrative style

THE LIBRARY HAS DELIVERED IT TO ME ONCE AGAIN

I had to return it to the library 😔 but I should get it back in two weeks.

I really want to sit down and properly read this, it's so good. Bennett is shaping up to be one of my favourite authors this year.

However, I'm so busy :( it's difficult. Highly recommend this series and I know that this year I'm going to end up reading all his books.

Well written, definitely challenging some of my beliefs! Can't really ask for much more from a nonfiction.

Super interesting because there's a lot of connections to the paper I'm writing in terms of the psychology behind it... status quo bias...

This is so good! AHHHHHHH. On a more serious note a very interesting exploration of what Hell is, especially since my religion doesn't really have Hell.

I've somehow managed to delete this book off of my shelf... a five star reread regardless

my year of re-reading?

I think that Gale is a good leader; he prizes the ideas and actions of rebellion above himself and his family and friends. What I'm reflecting on this time around is that that a lot of why I dislike him is that I value my family and friends more than change, but I'm not sure if that is better. I think a balance of the two is needed.

Even though I've read this too many times there's just little sentences that catch me by surprise 🥹

Yes I am reading it again. Yes I am still finding new little bits of foreshadowing. Yes it will likely end in me reading the Gregor the Overlander series.

Ugh Susanne Collins is already making me think deeply about privacy and who is allowed it
