Solidly crafted Monette story. Easy and comforting despite the horrible aids reality of the 80s. The past is a safer place if you survive it and the gender politics of the nasty religious right family and the victim of the earlier plague more clear-cut, though of course such prejudice and hate persist.

Kind of like flushing out your brain with bleach. Incredibly erudite but also, possibly, insane. Will get back to it when feeling strong.
