Painfully true in its story of a young Autistic woman trying to break free from societal stereotypes and her oppressive mother to find her place in the world. Also beautifully written

You know you are reading a different kind of Holocaust book when the Jewish protagonist says "Jesus!" all the time.

There are two reasons I haven't finished this yet: 1)I'm too tired to read at night and 2) I am savoring it.

This passage is representative. Jack: "I smiled at Early. The kind of smile you give to a little kid who still believes int he tooth fairy. If I'd been sitting closer, I might have ruffled his hair." It alarms me that readers find this acceptable and identify with Jack. He's a little pisher.

I should have read this one in one night. I am holding on to it, deciding if I want to finish it. The writing and storytelling are excellent. But the way the main character, Jack Baker, treats his friend(?) Early Auden (great name!) is almost unbearable to me. See: Early is special; possibly ASD--though the author doesn't give much info on this disability, because she doesn't have to.

I am savoring this extraordinary book. Truly groundbreaking, and a lot of fun too.

I'm trying to get through this, but it's bringing me down. Not because of the ways families have to "cope" with their children's differences, but because, although I admire the author, I have serious issues with the way he frames the interviews to state his own case

I am disappointed that the author of Moon Over Manifest fell into the quirky-brilliant-inspirational-Autistic (Rain Man) trap, but the writing and setting is keeping me interested. And it's nowhere near as offensive as Wonder .

Didn't like the Deaf chapter. The overall schemata troubles me. We'll see.
