The series gets better and better. For the first three Covenant is plagued with anguish which gets overbearing at times; the third book was significantly more enjoyable than the first two, and this one was significantly more enjoyable than #3.
*spoiler: it seems like the second trilogy is going to break the trend of each book being a discrete chapter in the land, and covenant is slowly figuring out his powers.

Now that I’m through, ishmael is the most interesting character. Ahab is a force of nature, but unrelatable.
The vast swaths of amateur natural history in the book are a little annoying to get through. There were surprisingly several funny passages or lines towards the beginning of the book
