I love this author's stream of consciousness writing style. It really hooks me.

What a fascinating look at the historic and current societal impact of corn on the world. Who knew corn could be so interesting.

This is one that I am having a very hard time putting down. I keep thinking 'just one more chapter' which turns into one more and one more. Great characters and an interesting supposedly utopian, actually dystopian, society have me hooked.

I am currently around chapter 9 or so of this novel. It honestly hasn't grabbed me yet. I feel like it won't grab my students either. I don't know if this is one that I will finish.

I particularly like the way this is written. In between each chapter there is the Q and A session between the main character and the author. Linda Sue Park fills in the information about where the ideas for the story came from and explains a lot of the facts and autobiographical information. Also, I am already completely attached to the main character Julia and her friend Patrick. They are believable and fascinating.

I had read some comments about the basic plot which truly ripped it apart saying there were holes, but I found answers to all of their questions, so I am still enjoying the read. Arguments were being made that the genetic defect couldn't happen to everyone, but she sets up a post World War III scenario which DOES allow for the "virus" to be a "genetic mutation". Maybe people need to be closer readers.

Wow, this is definitely an interesting storyline. It is set in the future with references to current situations and how they lead to the dystopian society which Rhine finds herself in. The details are rich and evoke captivating imagery that brings the story to life in the mind's eye.
