Stunningly dated, ideologically incoherent, and frustratingly thin...

[Name Redacted] is on page 70 of 384 of American Caliph: The True Story of a Muslim Mystic, a Hollywood Epic, and the 1977 Siege of Washington, DC
The author's axe is so ready to grind that he keeps (clearly intentionally) omitting crucial facts. E.G.: That white people did NOT go inland to capture & enslave Africans, but rather visited coastal ports to BUY slaves from MUSLIM and pagan African slavers. Or that the reason the USA fought the Barbary Pirates was NOT economic, but rather the capture & enslavement of American citizens by those Muslim seafarers.

[Name Redacted] is finished with A Rage in Harlem (Harlem Cycle, #1)
This is...very different from the film. But it's hard to be mad at a film with Gregory Hines, Robin Givens, Forest Whitaker, Danny Glover, etc.

This is all the more frustrating because you'll get these wonderful, intricate, candy-floss-esque de Lint moments and then CLUNK a big ol' "us poor brown girls have to fight the Man! Remember: racism is only bad when it happens to US!" passages and you wonder if he didn't have a "sensitivity reader" breathing huskily over his shoulder. Also, remember when roller derby was a thing back in the early 2010s?

This is...not working for me. I'll finish this volume, but unless it follows the recent trend of trope subversion (e.g.: "Kill Blue" & "Green Green Greens") it feels like this is going to be about the awkward guy winding up with the cross-dressing bisexual guy. That's just too "Current Year" for me, thanks.
