Tommy and Tuppence are quite young. Not in far enough to have an opinion yet.

The third person narrative threw me off a bit, different, but easy to get into.
I really like Vincent. His mind....

Thought i would stop and make some notes about the first chapter. Is Vincent our M16?
Delphian means obscure or ambiguous. Is that what the author is meaning? I doubt it's the reference to Greek Mythology.
He rescues prostitutes from organ harvesting of just one kidney

Edna is leaving the west for the east coast. She is on her way home.

The Kid has to kill his horse in the desert. He tries surviving by taking very little with him to continue his journey on foot. Along the way he is parched and barely surviving. They try to get him to return to the ranch. He does what he wants

The Kid leaves Texas to find his father in New Mexico Territory who is ailing. The Boyd family is after revenge.

The Hell Bent Kid was selected by the Western Writers of America as one of the twenty-five best Western novels ever written.
It was adapted into the 1958 movie From Hell to Texas.

Tot is our Kid (18). Mild manner and can handle a rifle better than most. Tot killed a man from the Boyd family in self defense.

Just revisiting the book of Psalms.

The Singing:

Spring is definitely my favorite time of the year. All the fresh new smells of rain, flowers, first cuttings of grass.
Olson tells about nature in the lake country of northern Minnesota and adjoining Canada on his endeavors of walks in the lake and forest. Running across a leasurely squirrel in the trees and the chickadees singing. The smell of the nature warming under the suns rays of the start of spring.

Adam takes his new wife to California where he works with Samuel an expert on the land and purchases a run down ranch. He hires what he thinks if a Chinaman (but actually his ancestry is). Cathy tries to abort the child and in the end after delivering twin boys a few days later she tells Adam to throw the boys in his well she was leaving. Adam thought for a monment she was going to stay.

Not sure what Adam and Charles are about but it just sickens me. Good thing it is fiction!

Cyrus was a tall tale provider. His military adventures that he retold were fabricated. The only exception was he did not change his rank. All of these tales he learned from charts and textbooks. He treated his children as if the were in the army. By the time they were in grade school they were taught close-order drill and training them marksmanship skills.

Cyrus soon married Alice his second wife. She covered everything he needed someone to take care of Adam keep house cook. Alice's greatest virture was she never said anything unless directly asked.

We meet Adam who was born on the farm by his mother who was working the farm by herself as Cyrus Trask was serving in the military where he lost his leg by a heavy slug. Mrs Trask was very religious and when Cyrus brought her an infection her God was a man of vengeance. She scarificed herself.

We meet Samuel Hamilton from Ireland. He was honest. Love is what brought him to California. A big man blacksmith, carpenter and woodcarver. Homesteader of 1760 acres of harsh and dry land. Blacksmithing was what kept him a float.
Liza his Irish wife had a moral code. She gave Samuel nine children.

Part One/Chapter One
The frame of the story is the Salinas Valley in California. The description of the grasses and flowers are discribed as the memory of odors is very rich. (from childhood) Gabilan Mountains, Salinas River in the spring. The land baren from farms and people.

I am skipping the Introduction, Select Bibliography, Chronology and Prologue. Have not read anything from him before so would like to have an open mind that has no bias.

She argues that the state should pay wages to mothers and wives because this would allow such women to have an economic freedom that would benefit everyone.

She suggests that women should form their own institutions and write their own manifestos because literature is one of the few professions that has not traditionally excluded all women.

Woolf discusses the three proposals in the unnamed man's original letter.

The discrepancy in pay between men and women is due to atmosphere.

She donates the second guinea to the womens society with the condition that every qualified person is helped.

First Guinea is spent!

She suggests that women's perspectives are different and their attempts to prevent war must be different as well.
