I'm excited to finally be reading this book. It's been on my to-do list for several years. I remember growing up with my grandfather telling stories of his life during the Depression. I know some of those memories will come rushing back as I read.

So, far this book has been a very personal read with characters I can identify from my own childhood growing up in the cornbelt. While most of the characters seem a generation removed from me (and therefore true to the time period of both real life and fiction), chapter 8 has elements in it that I identify in myself and my contemporary life. I look forward to finishing, even if I have to put it down frequently.
