Thinking about the previous trilogy + the start of this new one as it pertains to the implementation of horror elements: While Swan doesn’t have the inherent sentence-to-sentence composition flourish of China Mieville [especially in his sci-fi/sci-punk(?) work], he DOES manage to successfully capture horror vibes in a great and intangible way that really adds layers and complexity to fantasy. Just my 2 cents!
