So far so good.
The novel reads very causal. I mean for sure Updike being overly wordy, but it still reads sort stream of conscious like.
The literary device the novel uses to tell its story is that the narrator is writing a response to the “Northern New England Association of American Historians” inquiry of how he remembers the Ford administration. So the casual tone of narrator fits to the needs of the novel.
