Hated it the first 40 pages, but am now hooked. I've tried reading Japanese lit. before and couldn't do it -- had no idea what was a metaphor, what was significant/symbolic or not, etc. But this translates well, and it's really very refreshing to be led naively through a narrative without overanalyzing every piece.
