Re-reading this, since previously I had only read Book I, the Inferno. I have a companion book to it, Dark Way to Paradise.

In discussing the mind-body problem, Nagel says that to solve this, some have suggested that "mental events, like ghosts and Santa Claus, don't exist at all. But if we don't want to regard that as an option...we will have to leave materialism behind."
