Only two chapters in and already so many great lines/images. No wonder people like this guy.

So far it's been 19 pages of casual sexism and outright misogyny. Normally that'd be an auto-DNF, but a friend recommended the series to me and I told her I'd read at least the first book. So, onward we forge. Breasting boobily down stairs and all that.

Porn bots on Goodreads, of all places? REALLY?

I think the only way I'm going to get through this is by skimming it and trying to retain one (1) fact from each chapter.

Looking with consternation at the 232 books on my "Want to Read" list, thinking that I'll probably never get through them all. I finally cross one off, only to add two more.

The good news is that Omaha Public Libraries are functioning semi-normally now. They're still closed for browsing, but we can pick up books on hold *and* return them. So the idea of doing most of my reading from the library is realistic again.

I liked the idea of this book, but the reality is not that readable. DNF

After reading "Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang and "Embassytown" by China Mieville, I've decided that sci-fi plots centered on some deeply exotic mind-bending language are only going to irritate me. At the end of the day, language is just a tool. It's not magic. Mieville arrives at that conclusion eventually, but he leads you up the garden path first, not very convincingly.

I didn't make my ambitious reading goal for 2018, but I got a lot of reading done, so I feel fine!

I am being a little more realistic this year, however. Two a month -- surely I can do that?

So far this is the most page-turning nonfiction I think I've ever read.
