Finished this very fine book over a few hours; great read for the mature 10-16 year old. Tells teh story of Manjiro, a Japanese teenager in the mid-1800s who is shipwrecked, is rescued, gets to America and is educated, etc. Great maritime history in the historical fiction genre but based on the true story. Manjiro translated Bowditch's classic Navigation tome into Japanese.
