Quick read, quick to the 🌶️

Her time in the DRC is easily the best part of the book to read so far. THIS is the good mix of story telling and historiography I wanted.

I only learned just now that this is book #4 in a series and that devastates me because I certainly do not have any of the first 3 books and this one has hooked me so hard already I absolutely do not want to have to put a pause on it!
Do I trek on??
Do I exert my one singular ounce of literary willpower for the year??

This book would be infinitely better as a shitty hallmark romcom but it is just too insufferable as a novel that I have to sit through for 7 hours.

Ok yeah I can already tell this one ain’t gonna be for me.
It feels too much like millennial cringe rage-bait memes… I’ll keep reading until it pisses me off too many times but like, we’re already pretty close to a DNF

Ok listen I do like the book but the “not like other girls” vibe has really fucking reached its peak with this interaction with God and if I wasn’t 3/4 done I’d be goddamn tempted to DNF

A little dry so far, it’s very old history focused and I was hoping for more personal anecdotes or contemporary musings.
