I'm currently reading (a PDF of) Moderation by Elaine Castillo. Maybe I shouldn't have begun reading it so soon after State of War by Ninotcka Rosca, because the prose in Moderation is ... so unquestionably contemporary, it makes me cringe a little. If it had been written in first person instead of the third person, I wouldn't enjoy this. It would have sounded so insufferable. And yet, I shall continue.
