Introduction: check!

I'm sad because apparently Saussure's pushed to work more on other topic, causing him to kinda neglect his ideas on this books, hence no absolutely complete texts present for his future readers to learn from :(

And Chomsky mentioned as the villain here (calling Saussure's theories native) and damn everyone thought this books already outdated (I'm reading for Derrida later)

Have read the introduction. Some says he's very technical with his explanation (maybe because he was a scientist also). It's nice that I have learnt some of his ideas back then, can't wait to really study this!

As usual, I have finished but I wanna give some little thoughts for this book:
1. Again, Socrates (or Plato) REALLY held utilitarianism in high place; art, in his words more or less, should serve function for it to be accepted in the town. Human expressions in it is deemed as unreasoning, like, wth?
2. The past life argument is quite weak for the end of the whole book, I didn't expect it but okay I guess...

Second to last chapter. This one is the most boring, I changed my mind. It explains about how tyrannical city and soul is very messy and eventually, only the life led by justice will persevere.

Oh, the only interesting part is from (572), that every man has this innate evil desires which is repressed in daily life but revealed in dreams. Yo, Psychoanalysis!

IMO ITS boring but maybe because I've watched the anime adaptation. So far, yes, they omitted many details.

This is like, Shikamaru's inner struggle with growing up. Kinda fond of it since I've encountered similar themes in my previous readings. However, I do realize why classics differ so much from modern writings.

This one is by far the most boring one, yet nearing the end, in the tyranny explanation, all of them are the exact same things happening in Indonesia WTHHHHH I'm laughing so hard ngl.

In short, the ultimate city is a city that loves virtue; once the target deviates, it degenerates into:
1. Timocracy (honour)
2. Oligarchy (property)
3. Democracy (liberty)
4. Tyranny (demagogue)

This one is goated but I might be mistaking many stuff. However, I love this book because it emphasize the importance of education and how, after one is liberated, should one contribute back to the overall happiness of the just "city". This book talks about math as compulsory study and dialectic as the highest form of study. I can't help thinking Socrates perfect with the woman empowerment quote in the end. 3/4 done!

This one is about why philosophers are rejected in society today, which is mainly caused by bad environment (and concept of rulers).

The Form is also explained here with the Sun simile, but I think I need to revisit this because damn, it is kinda difficult to wrap my head around the concept.

Thankfully, book VIII would have The Allegory o The Cave, which I have understood! Excited for the next book!

Okay apparently I'm too tired so it's gonna be brief:

Woke
1. Women emancipation (or the acknowledgement of inherent human nature in BOTH man and woman)
2. Property sharing (kinda communist tho)

???
1. Family sharing, advocation for racial pureness (heil-) bro it's stripping humans from their identities (okay I might be a liberalist)
2. Children should watch war???

Philosophers are knowledge (smt that is) lovers

I read this to spend my time wisely in Jakarta Library before going to my friend's friend's theatrical performance. I have many thoughts about this chapter because it has both the wokest and the most controversial takes. I'll read the analysis and give my thoughts on this after I arrived home.

I forgot to log today, but Book IV covers about how 'justice in society is justice in soul writ large'. Everything they (Glaucon and Socrates) have been talking about finally make sense to me. The misogynistic view is still there but okay I guess. This might be one of the best chapters in this book ngl. I'm excited for the next chapters but I'll be taking a rest today. I finished this chapter at 11 AM today.

Third book continues the censorship thing and asserts that both music and gymnastic creates harmonious soul suitable for leaders/rulers. Again, many inference to Indonesian government lol, but yeah the gold, silver, copper thing is introduced here. It's cool that Socrates stated that rulers and auxiliaries should not touch gold or silver though (for they are already one, perhaps?)

Miss Kilman is a very interesting character (despite appearing really really late). Elizabeth is also interesting; we can see how her youthful characteristic reacts to everyone's around her. And I feel bad for blaming Rezia, she has all the right to act those ways—BLAME WORLD WAR I AND BRITAIN'S GREEDINESS. And Sep :((((( and tbh, Walsh is always falling in love because he's still in love with Clarissa, period.

Yay, past halfway. I'm happy Sep got another doctor (and pissed off because Rezia is like, too shallow about all these things(?)

And I absolutely love the use of stream of consciousness in explaining Richard's emotion. Aside from Septimus' illness, I think this is so far another best use of the technique.

And seriously, Clarissa is really flawed (even though human has flaws) (I might be mistaken reading her)

Funny I can make connections from Book II to Indonesia and kabinet gemuknya. Glaucon and Adeimantus' arguments are strong though, like, it works if we see humans as social animals (realistically speaking). Oh, I love when they talk about censorship. Weird to see Aristotle lowkey denying Greek gods' anthropomorphic nature (and then defend it apologetically). This one is fun and pretty understandable!

Thrashy Thrasymachus IS ragebaited. What I got from here is:

1. Justice is NOT what is advantageous to the stronger. Even if advantageous, it is not profitable in long term,
2. Because it does not fulfill the corresponding virtue of a soul.
3. Political obedience comes from check and balances, not solely because we love rulers' skills

Understandable & fun, I need to learn more though, yay!

I've just read the introduction and skimmed through the historical events. I will, from now on, apply this structure whenever I read nonfiction book since it helps me see the context better (I should reread the five dialogues again IT IS MENTIONED MANY TIMES HERE ;-;).

What's interesting so far is there's actually a discussion about elementary school and censorship, something I thought I won't meet here. Excited!

Here learn more about Peter and Dalloway's nature (and many other characters). If one is delusional enough, anything could be SKTM (hehe!)

I realized I used a very uninteresting example to describe Septimus' post-WWI horror. And it's great to see the very same problems through the lens of many character (for example, Sep's illness in Rezia and Walsh's eyes).

AND YES jotting down stuff has helped me understand more!

I think I've started to understand this book more. Clarissa met Peter and, because I was afraid of my misunderstanding their story, I looked up on Google to see whether I missed anything😭 but yeah they're not your match made in heaven (there are some reasons why didn't they get married in the first place)

Honestly I have no absolute idea what is Clarissa talking about at least until page 8/9 (when Hugh appeared) BECAUSE the stream if consciousness thingy makes everything sounds so random. And Woolf jumps from one characters mind to another, you really have to put a lot of focus on reading this... Alas, it's great to eventually see the actual thing I've written about (I wrote this in my sasmas modernism reflection)

(I've finished this)

Chapter 1-2: I love that, even with how deranged they are, they still love each other. Mitya and Katya's toxic relationship, paired with the conflicts with Grushenka—everything is, yeah, beautiful.

Chapter 3: I am at lost for words. The first book to actually make me cry, like, cry. The funeral is depicted so realistically. What a way to end a book, really. Lovely, so lovely.

This chapter replaces whichever my second favorite was.

It is chaotic yet thrilling in all sorts of aspects. The chaotic deliveries of the witnesses, the boastful prosecutor, and the GOATED FETYUKOVITCH; the speeches for each side of the case are really contradictory indeed, and if I were there, I'd be enthralled, too!

Sadly, yes, Mitya cannot escape his fate. And, yes, the Karamazovs are the epitome of Russians.

I love Alyosha for staying on Dimitri's side (AND YES my goat's right in the end). I despise Ivan for acting all mighty just to make peace with his conscience he was so sure of no relation to God AT ALL. Alas, because of his inner conflicts, we've found the murderer and Ivan has gone delirious. It's nice to see Ivan being humbled once though.

Chaotic as it is, this chapter is important and OH I'M NEARING THE END! :O

First, Kolya reminds me of myself and my good ol' sensei! He's the og pretentious lad, but like Alysoha said, he's "distorted"

Second, NOOOO the captain's family :((( The temporary joy they experience is hurting me. Now Ilusha is dying because of depression; Everyone grieves and it feels like being stabbed by a knife seeing their sorrow :( EVEN KOLYA CRIED!

this is definitely in my top five chapters of this book!

(I left this for three days and I'm glad I came back) GOSH I thought I'd be so bored with this (since Mitya pisses me off so much) but dang I feel pity for him becauase, yes, it's not his fault now! As much as I hate him, he is charged with something he did not do and I love the mental conflicts he is having upon being interrogated; it shows how ignoble people can still revert to their once good nature ig...

Mitya stands for TOLOL btw. It was boring to read this at first since I don't really like the oldest, but after arriving at the end of this chapter, I'd say the writing is brilliant. The chaotic delirium Dimitri experienced has already given me an inkling of what's happening next, but alas it still surprised me (and to think that he's eventually happy before the revelation of his vile deeds, kinda sad lol) 43% to go!
