By about halfway through the book, I’m struck by how methodical and human the operation becomes after Polish and Soviet authorities clamp down on the Solidarity movement. The CIA expands support for book smuggling, but much of the real work is carried out by Polish citizens abroad, handling contacts and logistics. W/help from ChatGPT

At halfway through the book, the whole operation becomes methodical after Polish and Soviet authorities clamp down on the Solidarity movement. In response, the CIA expands support for book smuggling, but much of the real work is carried out by Polish citizens abroad, handling contacts and logistics. In Poland, a printing operation keeps dissenting ideas alive forced to shift locations to avoid detection.- w/chatgpt

I’ve learned how state censorship wasn’t just about banning political dissent, but about shaping inner life—suppressing self-sufficiency and alternative ways of living through even seemingly harmless books.

My dad read Montaigne and I never did. My friend, David, was reading this book when I was crashing at his house after evacuating from New Orleans during hurricane Ida. I started on his hardtop and am finishing with the iPad version. How can I put down a book with the title “How to Live”. I’ll take any advice at this point.

Lots of surfing. Wondering when the author is going to grow up.
