Not sure if it was all the DDT they used back then, but Herbert’s references to insects essentially boils down to bug equals alien and does not have any factual attachment to a description of anything in the class insecta. An example, “the thing’s sensor arms hung limply over the table, reminding Paul of some weird insect newly dead.” Even “newly dead” bugs do not go limp. They fucking curl the fuck up.
