Can’t tell if I’m just sensitive or if there’s a weird amount of casual racism

I can’t stop thinking about a scene a while ago where a guy basically abducts a teenage girl, essentially drugs her, and maybe rapes her? Then sends her to a different hotel, alone, and ditches her. If this book is about how much shit men can get away with/could get away with in the 60s being the “American dream”, it’s doing a good job

I really wish this was funny or at least entertaining to me. I feel like if I don’t have an imagination myself, I would appreciate the detailed imagery more. It’s definitely creative and well-written, but it doesn’t make me feel anything

I don’t feel like this book is for me… I like stories about characters that feel real to me (ex: instant attachment to bilbo, even though I thought he was an asshole. He felt real!). Anyway my gran got it for me and she says it’s really funny so whatever. I just don’t care about drugs/people who’re high. I don’t find it funny or good or evil, just uninteresting

Looking like a 3 star teetering on 2. Needlessly wordy. Feels like a beach episode of an intense anime. Callahan’s backstory is the best part so far. ~150 pgs to go, hopefully it picks up.

Unfortunately this is falling flat for me. It feels more like a vent post. The narration sounds too old to be the mc’s voice (even though it’s in 1st person) but the writing feels immature, like a high school essay. I appreciate the issues this book is trying to cover, but it handles some irresponsibly.

On the breasts of children in school: “…the swell of small breasts, firm, high-set, elegant as the inventions of a rococo sculptor of nymphs. And everyone took them completely for granted.”

Dude did shrooms, gained empathy, and thought he should write a book about this wholly unique experience.
NO ONE IN THIS BOOK EVER SHUTS UPPPPPP

Delving into the philosophical significance of the phrase “I am”.
An incredible book for those who have never experienced a “shower thought”. Everything in this book is either stupidly wrong or painfully obvious

Page after page of dialogue. One thing has happened in this book outside of dialogue. It’s page-long paragraphs of dialogue.
The entire island is full of people who have sex on shrooms. People have jobs, but sex and shrooms seem to be the only hobbies. If you don’t like the idea of this, the book makes you out to be a prude

-Details on a scantily clad teenage girl’s boobs (a nurse, of course, outside of proper PPE on the job).
-She has a wonderful paragraph of a speech that adds up to: “Women are not complete people without sex”
Book likely about a utopian society if you’re stupid/you can’t imagine women as people with thoughts outside of sex and self obsession
