Really enjoying the quick no nonsense aspect of the world building. He’s giving me the correct amount of information at each turn but not drowning it in self indulgent paragraphs of bs. Interested to see where Vin goes as a character but Kelsier seems cool as hell

Sad that they’re all dying. I would’ve hoped that the neuroplasticity treatments would have become a mitigating factor for the mental decline. Maybe in this next section (13)

It’s become a sort of drawn out epilogue. I like this vision of a full-spacer humanity and it’s interesting how much he draws from asimov. This section with zo got surprisingly horny but I guess every sci-fi guy hopes that people finally loosen up in the future. Excited for more Ann in the coming section and how she reacts to the Uranian trip.

Ugh. Jackie continues to suck. Nirgal is a wuss. No wonder Krish dnf’d this one. I’m hoping Art and Nadia and sax will pull this one out for me. Even Ann has a cool section with the polar bear. The fact that she isn’t close to the bottom is how much KSR made me hate Jackie

So worried for Nirgal and so sick of Michel. His sections continue to be the worst. I know he doesn’t have value in the plot but can we just move on already. At least I’ll get some follow ups on Ann after her “forced” treatment

Glad the annoying reds got killed at the start
Glad that Sax saved Ann with the treatment and I’m excited to see the fallout of those actions.
Really enjoyed the depiction of the Martian constitutional congress. It made Art feel like Frank was set up to be before his untimely demise. Worried for the earth delegation but especially Nirgal. Curious how much of a time jump we will get after the earth section.

Sad to see Dors come to an end so suddenly. She was incredibly fun and reassuring to have by Hari’s side. Also a bummer that she wasn’t the woman from foundations edge. That would’ve been neat.

I enjoyed Hari’s maneuvering to avoid the threat of jojo. Glad that his son didn’t betray him for real

Pretty sure eto is hummin. It fits asimovs pattern of a close person reveal in most of his work. Not sure if there’s any other imp agents as well.
Cool reference to Aurora but it doesn’t track with the yeast farms being an earth industry in his robot novels. I guess there’s a few thousand years post-Baley that we don’t know of so maybe they needed to adopt that practice as well as they got overshadowed

It’s interesting but I don’t know how much I love this deconstruction of Hari Seldon with his origin story.
Also I’m already convinced that Hummin is Eto since that sort of reveal is Asimov’s jam. He loves tricking us with this stuff cuz there’s no pictures

Riveting rescue of Sax (thank god) and a very interesting slowdown with the Martian congress. Curious to see how bloodless their coming revolution is and if it happens in the next 35%

I’m enjoying this Sax section more than I expected. He’s painted as a real quiet nerd in the first book but the section title is surprisingly fulfilled in his weird deception of Phyllis. I’m still worried for him getting found out but maybe his earlier apolitical dedication to terraforming efforts will be enough to save him

I should re-read the first section to see how much my image of John was maligned by Franks pov. Sad that he’s dead for real but glad we got some closure on hiroko’s crew and the stowaway. Not sure why he was brought but maybe it’s coming up. Excited for this frank chapter to continue

The John chapter has kicked things into a new level of interesting. Still waiting on the stowaway/coyote but I do like his journey around the planet meeting people.
Eco-economics seems flimsy but I guess that’s because I’m a jaded Terran.
I wish there was a little bit less geography because I feel kinda lost but maybe this is a good incentive to learn

The michel chapter is weird as hell and I’m disappointed that the stowaway gets no explanation still. Next one seems super long so maybe we’re about to catch up to the intro

The pull quote from Arthur c Clark is 100% correct. This is an incredible depiction of the colonization of Mars. It feels like the retelling of a real account

KSR has really given me the prequel to the Martian missions I would have loved to see with this Nadia section. Really admire how he’s able to swap viewpoints but keep the story feeling so consistent. I’m a little lost with some of the names but he gives enough specific focus to the leaders of each faction that it doesn’t get overwhelming. Still no mystery man but I wonder what Ana’s whole deal is

I’m loving how it’s a cohesive collection of little scenes so far. Paints a clear picture of a real life without dragging out events unnecessarily.
