“Water is always wonderful, but what it is to me is affected by affliction. Every step up that hill prepares the weight of glory in a glass of ice water. This is what Paul has in mind when he says our affliction prepares glory. It’s as if our future glory feeds on our present suffering, growing in size/substance. The glory of heaven is strengthened, even nourished, by our knowledge of what it replaces/redeems.”

“If Christ had not taken our nature and sanctified it in himself, and satisfied justice in it, what boldness could this unclean nature of ours have to go to the holy God? Let us, I beseech you, be wrapped up in admiration of the singular love of God to us, especially in these last days of the gospel, in which we see in a clear glass the love of God in Christ and with open face we may go boldly to God.”
