First impressions: This book is really character-driven and really well written. The book kind of feels to me like what Jeff Wheeler’s “The Queen’s Poisoner” was trying to be, with a child growing up in a king’s court, themes of safety/security, loneliness/relationship building, loyalty, hints of magic… And as a bonus, this hardcover illustrated edition I bought is so gorgeous and so satisfying to read.
