This story is uncomfortable because she is so honest about all of the ways she wasn’t a “perfect victim”. The way she tells the story makes you shift inside because it’s so inappropriate but from her past POV it wasn’t. It’s uncomfortable reading the details about her relationship with Jeff from her adolescent POV because she was somewhat convinced it was love. It’s an honestly that other victims get.

I can definitely see the resemblance to my dark Vanessa and I can see why Wendy Ortiz felt ripped off. I can also see why her book was rejected. It’s very raw and unpolished around the edges and it was way ahead of its time.

As a memoir on this subject I think at this point it’s brilliant. The best memoirs are raw and rough around the edges written by real and flawed humans who have a story to tell.

Period sex… this was weird af. Mostly because she had sex with silver and then the next day while still bleeding had a random quickie with miller and her period and blood is mentioned after the fact. So Cora is either free bleeding all morning because her quickie with miller or she had sex with a tampon in. I hate that I’m over things Cora’s period but get hung up on detail like this being missed.

Really enjoying this so far but I’m a little annoyed that everything is insta-love. All of these guys are just instantly obsessed with Cora, there is no slow burn they just go straight from 0 to 100 immediately. Alec is a slight exception story wise but by his own words it was love at first sight.

So far so good. Getting a little hung up on Alec’s introduction though. They were caught in the rain and he gave Cora his jacket then like five minutes later she’s refusing a ride home and everyone is just okay with letting her walk home in the supposed rain? There was no mention of the rain stopping. Just a silly detail I can’t stop thinking of.
