Peaches is my Emerence to a small degree. Oh dear I see her everywhere these days.

I’m almost done and I’m forcing myself to stop so I can savor the story. The ending is like being punched in the gut. The little boy left all alone in middle of winter with all the refugees.

Poor Herr Hesse. I didn’t see that coming!

Would you stay or would you flee? The uncertainty would fuel my anxiety.

Although not well written or executed I am fully taken in by this story. It seems to fresh in the stale abundance of WW2 literature.

The writing style at the beginning was questionable but I soon got pulled into the story. NOTE: East Prussia is not East Germany as stated in some reviews. I did a simple google search and learned something new yesterday!

Everyone always seems to walk great distances in Wessex. Hardy is so hard on his protagonists.

My reading time is scarce this past week but I'm still getting along with this one...

It is a tad heavy handed in the symbolism of UK history of racial injustice but somehow that does not bother me. Still quite enjoyable.

I'm loving the story and the prose so much. I hope it continues😇

OK I've officially lost my momentum with this book. The beginning was excellent but I don't know if I should the book or the reading slump I'm experiencing right now.

One of many reasons why I love reading classic noir is that it provides such a slice of life that has been forgotten, such as how to operate a car and keeping attention to the gauges which is irrelevant now with modern automobiles.

This is a Booktube book (meaning specifically that the only place I've heard about it was there) plus the library copy found upstairs in the stacks looks like nobody has even opened the front cover yet - brand spanking new. I hope I didn't get tricked by the hype.

I am going to put this aside for now. I'm just not in the mood this summer for audiobooks. I've found several podcasts that I'm really enjoying.

Just found an error with the Chicago references. Glenbard is not a city or suburb but a high school - Glenbard East, Glenbard South, Glenbard North, etc.

This is a fun read!

I like how the story is framed: Is this family gifted or are they a scam?
