Things still not representative in the industry, not a barn-burner of a chapter, touches on nepotism but flinches at probing.

There’s no Carlton exCuse for the level of Damon Lindel”off colour” jokes the people working on Lost had to deal with.
This chapter, examining substantially the work environment of women and people of colour in the writing staff, and on the cast, is impeccably handled, deeply disgusting and flows through many decades of industry suppression.
Never liked Lost anyway…

How to make sure watching a 7-part HBO Max doc mid-pandemic can be traded off as “work”.
Discussing genuine terror and abuse in a work environment, against the tyranny of a cult like Nxivm and the beating down of the self, the idolisation of grand dreams if you submit.
But I still wanna make art.

A chapter on systemic abuse and union fight backs, ends on “fuuuuck that”, written like that.
Hard to engage in true stories of abuse and torment when written like a child.

Bullying bosses chapter VERY TRIGGERING!
Dislike ending a section on Sorkin’s silence by Ryan saying “I guess he’s written some decent things.”
Don’t need that kind of hindsight bias, who is she, Sorkin writing The Newsroom?

Amazing how characters in a Stephen King book write diary entries like they, too, are being paid by the word.

The writing, the stories, the genuine comprehension of humanity beyond the self. For a memoir, this is a rich journey.
