i do hate that i’m missing the visual element reading this as an audiobook, but the dynamic between the two voice actors playing the narrator and juan have such a breathtaking level of chemistry it feels like an even trade.

i take it all back, i’m in hater mode, the entire back third of this seems to be exposition and park helplessly clenching her fists. it feels like this story was juggling about 30 dinner plates and the author didn’t know how else to make them stop but let them shatter.

look some of the critiques around this book are valid but i’m convinced negative reviews regarding the protagonist are just annoyed they have to exist inside an autistic girlie’s head.

so far, so good, but i'm starting to pick up on some of the same issues i had with adult children of emotionally immature parents. distinctively freudian vibes. about to get me tearing up in a crowded cafe about my mom and the futility of fuckup-proof parenting.

this is so unrelated but the author’s voice in the audiobook combined with the content in chapter 7 makes me feel like i’m being read to by carmilla from castlevania, which is an absolute treat and dulls the blows of the horrors. :)
