More foreword. In general Maclean focused on the why. He became obsessed over the why , & how these young men were taken. Very dark sad but he mentions 1994 south canyon fire in CO, then the tragedy of the 19 part of the yarnell hill fire in 2013. Following chronologically it goes 1910, 1949,1994,2013. He recognizes it always has the all too familiar elements. *The ending of the authors note*

Focusing on the strategies I’ll be using mostly on the hotshot crew which involve burning operations/ backfire operations.

Learned about constructing line that goes hand in hand with putting fire on the ground in effort to sway the fire or corral it away from the line dug by the crew

Intro was good, Norman Maclean was puzzled on the mann gulch fire tragedy that lasted until he had passed away. With the book filled out but unfinished.
Mann Gulch Fire 1949.
This is going to be a hard read. I feel connection & condolences to those who had perished in the fire. My heart truly goes out to them and their families.

This is going to be a very good book to read before season paired with the other book
