The app that I've been using to read Homestuck (since the website is old and broken, and there's a lot of important side content) told me that I've finished "Part 1" today, whatever that means. Ancient Internet texts (spoilers from 15 years ago) have also informed me that the next act (5 of 7) is broken into three sub-acts. There's the answer to how I'm not actually 4/7ths of the way done despite reading four acts.

If you don't already know, Homestuck was a webcomic published serially from 2009 to 2016. As of today, I have read one whole year of pages; it took me three days, which is weird to think about. There was a section just after the one-year mark where the author is commanded by the comic (the reader? himself? I have no idea) to give a recap of the last year of plot. Very meta.

Dropped 1984 because I thought the pacing was unbearable. Maybe I'll pick it up again someday, but since I was reading a copy from the school library, it'll have to wait for now.
In other news, I started reading Homestuck yesterday. If you know, you know.

Rereading this with far more knowledge about the USSR and the Russian Revolution has been very interesting... lots of eye-opening details that I didn't notice the first time around.

How do you prove somebody innocent of a crime they didn't commit, saving them from the electric chair, and then feel angry afterwards because you can't save everybody? Bryan needs therapy.

This chapter was kind of strange; it didn't seem very connected to the rest of the story. It was definitely very emotional, though, and highlighted the problems with the justice system at the time of the case Stevenson was working on.

There were a lot of really interesting people in the chapter I read today; everyone Stevenson asked to speak about the case was weird in their own special way.

Totally forgot to make an update yesterday... Well, I'm glad executions by electric chair aren't a thing anymore. There's not many ways a lethal injection can go wrong, but it seems like every other electrocution lasted 15 minutes instead of being instantaneous.

Finally, I'm not slacking on my summer reading anymore. I kinda wish I still was, though, because the further I get into this book the more it starts to feel like I'm living in Hell.

I'm pretty sure seven people just died in what I read today.

The part where people start killing each other just happened. Neat.

I'm really good at forgetting that nonfiction books are nonfiction. First with Where Wizards Stay Up Late, now with this. To be fair, this is a graphic novel which makes it a little easier, but still...

Fun fact, Nathan Hale (the author's namesake) was a spy for America's Continental Army during the revolution. Another fun fact: the story of this book is told as a story he was telling shortly before his execution. Not so fun fact: the executioner and a British soldier keep freaking interjecting and I'm kind of getting tired of it.

I'm just reading this to pass the time before I can get the third Monument 14 book from the library. Also, this is completely irrelevant, but we also had a funeral for a broken chair today and it was really moving.

I couldn't fall asleep and I accidentally finished the book. Oops.

Surprisingly, the most memorable quote of this book and the last has been from seven-year-old Max: "Stay with the dog you know". It makes a little more sense if you hear the story to go with it.

I don't understand people who see characters that they hate and call it bad character design. Not every villain is a misunderstood softie at heart, some people are just jackasses. Unfortunately, this book gets so eventful so fast from page one that I can't describe why this is relevant.

I just started and it already feels like if I write anything about the book here, I'll spoil something.

I think the book is starting to end.

I don't know if I can keep describing the book in these updates anymore...

Well, I just did something that I don't think I've ever done before: sat down and read for an hour by my own choice.
