Just finished rereading The Name of the Wind after a few years and then immediately bought The Wise Man's Fear.

Everything I have read so far resonates with the lack of morality, conscience, free will and simple value of life. Warmth in any form is polluted, struggling for existence and coldness is so masterfully prevalent it is the norm in all its manifestations. Leo's wife Raisa is the exception and the catalyst for change.

The first chapter hits you right between the eyes and each page continues beating on you as you read on. I have to put this one down every few pages and thank pure chance I don't live in the society portrayed in Russia 1953.
