Oofta this is heavy. Definitely had to slow down my pace even tho I'm familiar with the anthropology of thinkers like Kant and Cartesian thinkers because Carroll really is excavating the deep etymology and historical context from which not just the debates Kant's stepping into but examine the very nature of the development of these questions amongst the German anthropologists in the 18th century. A real gold mine
